WAXAHACHIE, TX – September 5, 2024 – Earlier this month, Nelson University hosted its annual Welcome Weekend, marking the start of the 2024-2025 academic year with a kickoff of events for new and returning students. The four-day event, provided a mix of informative sessions and social activities, helping students and their parents transition into university life.

The weekend kicked off on Friday with check-in and move-in, followed by an orientation session, “Making You a Lion for Life,” and various group breakout sessions. Students had the chance to explore campus resources and meet their peers during these initial events.

Saturday featured the launch of the S3 class, academic connections with faculty, and the lively “Mane Event” on the historic Farmer’s Administration lawn. Sunday offered a more relaxed pace, with the Lion’s Fair and the Nelson Family Chapel service, wrapping up with a fun evening event hosted by Nelson Alumni, “Mugged,” on Guynes Patio.

Monday morning, students went through a final dorm orientation, making sure everyone was ready for the start of classes. Monday evening, the Lions United student organization had 175 athletes attend the Back to Campus Fellowship.

Amy Trober, M.A., Director of Student Success comments “Our goal for Welcome Weekend is to help students and families feel informed and connected. We want to make sure everyone has the information they need, get connected to our various resources, and begin building their Nelson community.”
