SAGU Baseball Drop Series at WBU

Wayland Baptist University ends the Lions baseball two series win streak after dropping the final two games of the weekend. Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) won game one 11-7, then lost game two 6-8 and the third one 2-8. After this weekend the Lions sit in 7th place of the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 5-6 conference record.
Game one SAGU was destroying the ball with three home runs and four doubles. Hunter Johnson had two home runs for five RBI’s and Kyle Contreras had one then AJ Munoz had two doubles, Ben Bills and Kyle Coolidge each had one. The game was tied 7-7 then the Lions came alive in the top of the 7th for four runs to come away for a game one victory. Logan Mann was recorded with the win after pitching three innings and allowing one run while striking out three batters.
Bills kept his weekend going hitting a home run and another double in game two to go three for three when WBU tied the series up. Jared Anderson DH’d against the Pioneers going two for four with a single and a home run for three RBI’s. Tanner Lindle hit the other double for the Lions going one for one to end the day off. Augie Martinez pitched four innings giving up eight hits and five earned runs, Anderson faced six batters in 1.1 innings allowing two runs off of two hits, and Munoz finished the seventh inning facing the last two batters not allowing a hit or run.
Series tied one to one with the Lions looking to win their third series in a row; SAGU started off scoring two runs in the second inning then the Pioneers scored eight and did not allow the Lions to score another run during the nine-inning game. Coolidge started the inning off with a double then Anderson would bring Coolidge and Johnson home for the Lions two runs. Bills pitched 6.2 innings allowing eight hits for six runs and four of them being earned and Mann finished the last 1.1 innings with three hits and two earned runs. Bryson Calaway recorded the win for WBU after pitching seven innings and allowing two earned runs from Anderson’s single. The Pioneers bump up to 5th place in the SAC after the weekend series.
The Lions will be back home this weekend to face Southwestern Christian University for one game on Friday, 3/29 at 6 pm then the second two on Saturday for 12 pm and 3 pm start times.
